Multifaceted city administration research project utilizing “University Knowledge”: Revitalization of Kyoto by utilizing culture
This “Multifaceted City Administration Research Project Utilizing “University Knowledge”” is a joint project between the Kyoto City and The Consortium of Universities in Kyoto. Its aim is to apply the “University Knowledge” in Kyoto’s to maximum effect in City policy, through surveys and research to solve issues in municipal government. In the 2016 academic year a public appeal was issued and the research group whose project leader is Professor Naoko Tosa of Kyoto University was selected.
The designated theme of the project was “Revitalization of Kyoto by utilizing culture.” Taking the opportunity of the Ministry of Culture’s decision to relocate to Kyoto, the Project pursued research on methods to revitalize Kyoto in multiple fields centered on culture, leveraging Kyoto’s strengths in university education, tourism, manufacturing and crafts, Japanese cuisine and scenery. The research group was divided into four units, which researched the themes of tourism, industry, living and urban renewal respectively. Over a two-year period from 2016 to 2017, the Project conducted surveys and analysis from a multifaceted perspective.
