Kyoto University Action Plan for the Promotion of Gender Equality (AY 2022–2027)

Kyoto University Gender Equality Promotion Center

The achievement of a gender-equal society is the foundation of a creative and prosperous society, based on coexistence of a diversity of viewpoints and mutual acceptance. As institutions tasked with the development of the next generation, universities are expected to play a leading role in this effort. Kyoto University, in its capacity as a research university that leads the quest for knowledge and creativity in an atmosphere of academic freedom, is committed to galvanizing this development process. Based on the principle of gender equality, the University places high priority on cultivating and attracting outstanding female scientists.
Currently the University’s female-instructor ratio is low in comparison with other universities. The possibility exists that women face particular hurdles when pursuing a career in research. In view of this state of affairs, the University drafted the Kyoto University Action Plan for the Promotion of Gender Equality (AY 2022–2027), recognizing that it must accelerate its efforts to cultivate and attract excellent female researchers, increase the number of female students and broaden the range of fields to which female students aspire. By accomplishing this plan, Kyoto University is advancing gender equality among all University staffs and students.
