Conclusion of partnership agreement between Kyoto University and Kyoto Prefecture on education and research regarding conservation of plant diversity
Kyoto University and Kyoto Prefecture have concluded an agreement to partner on education and research related to conservation of plant diversity. The key organizations in this agreement are Kyoto Prefecture’s Kyoto Botanical Gardens and the University’s Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Agriculture, Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies, Kyoto University Museum and Field Science Education and Research Center. The partners are collaborating on education and research on the conservation of endangered plant species and other plant species, aiming to implement species preservation and environmental education for the preservation of wild plants.
Collaboration is taking place in four spheres:
- Conservation of endangered plant species
- Maintenance, management and research of plants, etc. cultivated at Kyoto Botanical Gardens
- Environmental education at Kyoto Botanical Gardens
- Out-of-area conservation of plants growing wild in the forest research stations and experimental and research stations of the Field Science Education and Research Center (FSERC)
Based on this agreement, the partners are collaborating on an array of activities, including conservation of endangered plants and propagation of specimens at Kyoto Botanical Gardens; environmental education, including seminars on preservation of rare plants; and surveys of the University’s forest research stations and experimental and research stations, accompanied by Kyoto Botanical Gardens personnel.
