Sensing your feelings remotely using electromagnetic waves
Physical and mental states affect physiological signals such as respiration and heartbeat. Wearable devices with sensors to monitor these signals have been increasingly popular for exercise and health management. However, most existing sensors require skin contact, causing discomfort and inconvenience for long-term observation. I have been working on remote sensing technology to measure body movement, respiration, and heartbeat using electromagnetic waves. Once this technology becomes widespread, people’s health can be monitored without worn sensors, allowing necessary care to be provided for everybody everywhere. No matter how much science and technology advance, we must remember that humans remain merely one of the animal species. I believe that sensing human physiological signals is crucial for creating a healthcare-centric society.
