Comparative legal research for improving law and society

Gabriele Koziol
Graduate School of Law

Private law governs various aspects of human life and the economy, such as contracts, property rights, and family relations. While the problems faced are similar all over the world, the legal solutions vary depending on the country. My research focuses mainly on comparing the different approaches towards various private law issues. I aim to uncover not only the differences in rules but also the variations in historical development, culture, thinking, and values that shape these differences. Through this research, I hope to not only foster a deeper understanding of how people in other countries see things, but also enable us to learn from one another in finding better solutions to daily problems and, ultimately, in building better societies.
