Students with disabilities, rights, and the university
The number of students with disabilities who require reasonable accommodation is increasing at Japanese universities and other institutions. A fundamental value for any university should be cultivating a space where a broad spectrum of students can forge their paths through rich and varied educational experiences. However, many students with disabilities still face challenges in accessing adequate learning opportunities, a problem that also symbolizes broader societal issues surrounding disability. To address this, I am committed to ongoing practical and research efforts to ensure that educational opportunities are available not only in higher education but across various settings, as well as to tackle the wide-ranging challenges related to disability in contemporary society. From the perspective of disability, I continually ask what kind of society we should strive to create.
