Realizing a low-carbon future
Achieving a low-carbon society is one of the most urgent challenges of our time, requiring collective action. My research focuses on the role of the Asia-Pacific region in facilitating this transition. In particular, I examine the relationship between East and Southeast Asia and their roles as leaders in technology, suppliers of critical minerals, and key players in green finance, which supports the low-carbon transition. I investigate how different actors (states, corporations, and financial institutions) mediate the shift away from fossil fuels, create clean energy markets, and develop critical mineral supply chains. I critically analyze whether their strategies promote environmentally and socially just systems or, conversely, reinforce environmental degradation and social inequality. My goal is to influence policy decisions by addressing these issues in a timely and critical manner.
