Building the environmentally-friendly societies through Green Chemistry

Kei Saito
Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability

To achieve the goal of zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the establishment of a circular economy that generates no waste is considered essential. In line with the twelfth Sustainable Development Goal, which focuses on sustainable consumption and production, there is a need for circular products that are not only easy to recycle but also designed for repair and long-term use ̶ ideally fitting a subscription model that minimizes waste. With the power of green chemistry, we are developing materials for such products for an eco-friendly society. I am also conducting research from a trans-disciplinary viewpoint to understand what truly constitutes “environmentally friendly” solutions, collaborating across academia, industry, and government.
