Mathematical optimization: optimal choices with science

Ellen Hidemi Fukuda
Graduate School of Informatics

People aim for optimal outcomes in various situations. For example, companies seek maximum profit with limited budgets. Drivers choose the fastest route among many options. Gamers make the best choices to win. Mathematical optimization is a field that solves these everyday optimization problems. It describes real-world issues mathematically and uses computers to find solutions. I focus on developing algorithms for complex mathematical models. In the future, I aim to create fast algorithms for more complex applications, supporting people in making optimal choices through science.
