Well-designed, beautiful molecules

Takayuki Tanaka
Graduate School of Engineering

Since molecules are typically on the nanometer scale, making them suitable as functional materials requires either scaling up single molecules by a factor of at least 106 or assembling 106 molecules. However, simply gathering molecules often compromises their function, necessitating innovation in both the assembly method and the design of the molecules themselves. I aim to create meticulously designed molecules with minimal substituents and densely integrate them to develop materials that surpass the capabilities of existing substances, contributing to energy solutions. By pursuing optimal molecular designs through fundamental science, I hope to supply diverse, beautiful materials that lead to breakthroughs in global challenges.
