Unit for research on a harmonious global society
The unit is the operating organization of the “Kyoto beyond SDGs Consortium,” which aims for the social implementation of the SDGs. This Unit, whose members come from diverse fields and generations, examines the role of the University in coexisting harmoniously with regional communities and implementing sustainability and the SDGs and aims to organize this effort in a systematic fashion. We also carry out practical testing, using the campus and community as test fields.
One of the activities of the Unit consists of mapping researchers and groups of researchers (including development of methodologies, applications and evaluation procedures) to understand the status of research and how it has changed over time. Based on these findings, the Unit conducts dialogue on ways to contribute to a sustainable society and the achievement of the SDGs and, in view of these discussions and the needs of society, conducts activities for each theme and field.
At the start of each research meeting, members describe their research projects, define sustainability as it pertains to research themes and fields of specialization and provides an inventory of research conducted to that point. This process is used to generate new research themes and create opportunities for each specialist adopt a fresh perspective.
