École de Kyodai
École de Kyodai is a group composed of Kyoto University undergraduates, graduate students and faculty. With the participation of all members, the group dedicates itself to making the University a “sustainable campus.” Activities include action to reduce food loss and plastics use on campus, holding events to raise awareness of environmental issues and presentation of seminars on environmental education for junior-high and high school students and other regional residents.
École de Kyodai’s activities are various and creative. In “Kyoto University Pla-ID Revolution,” the group calls on people on campus to take a fresh look at the plastic products around them to find ways of reducing plastic waste. “Kistory” is a program that encourages people whose closets hold unwanted or neglected kimono to pass them on to the next generation, through activities such as kimono-handoff events and kimono-wearing classes planned in partnership with Kyoto Kimono Kikaku. The aim is to encourage people to think about environmental issues from a wide range of perspectives while doing fun activities that embrace the regional community.
