Research to understand the Earth by the Future Earth Research Advancement Unit

Future Earth is a platform for international cooperative research aimed at achieving a sustainable global society. This unit intends to share the research results and resources related to Future Earth that Kyoto University’s faculties and departments have accumulated and disseminate them both within and outside the University. Future Earth will also serve as a forum for discussion toward tabling proposals for academic projects for the above purpose, so that Kyoto University can participate in Future Earth as a leading player. A further objective for this unit is to train the next generation of scientists who will take charge of academic projects to address efforts on a global scale related to Future Earth.
Research needed to understand the Earth will be divided into three categories for research purposes:

1. Research on the environment and resources
2. Research on living things and ecologies
3. Research on human activity (humanities, engineering, informatics, etc.)
