Making a clean world through tiny pores

You meant to add sugar to your coffee but accidentally added salt—there’s no way to undo it! While this may seem like a simple mistake, something similar is happening on a much larger scale worldwide. Trace amounts of pollutants from wastewater are mixed into seawater, and human activity is increasing the concentration of CO₂ in the atmosphere yearly. Once mixed, this might seem impossible to reverse. Thus, we are developing materials with tiny pores that can clean up these mixtures. By creating materials with pores tailored to the size and shape of pollutants or CO₂ molecules, we can selectively capture them from water or air, respectively, restoring clean water and air. These porous materials may have small pores, but they store big dreams and hopes for the future.
