Envisioning diversity and sustainability through one seed

Komei Kadowaki

My research interest in living things started early and has led me to study how different plants, animals and microorganisms live together in natural forests. Through innovative approaches combining manipulation experiments (where human intervention is applied to study species and the environment) and theoretical models, I have been clarifying how plants interact with soil microorganisms and animals, and how these interactions shape the stability and fragility of natural ecosystems. I believe that unraveling the intricate tapestry of natural ecosystems will ultimately reveal how humans and nature can sustainably coexist, addressing the greatest challenge facing Earth and human society. Drawing on the ecological insights gained from my research, I look forward to contributing to biodiversity conservation and forest restoration.
