Data analysis and decision making

Takahide Yanagi
Graduate School of Economics

With the advancement of information technology, it has become possible to collect and analyze big data on various economic and social phenomena. Properly doing so and interpreting the results can provide valuable insights for policy evaluation, policymaking, and business decision-making. One of the goals of econometrics, my field of research, is to consider how to effectively collect, analyze, and interpret data for making such important decisions. I aim to develop data analysis methods that can be applied to economic and social decision making by applying and extending the statistical approach known as causal inference, which infers the relationship between a cause and its resulting effects.
