Dreaming of a cure for atopic dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis affects about 230 million people worldwide, significantly impacting quality of life due to itching. For a long time, topical steroids were the only effective treatment. Some new drugs have been developed recently, but none work for all patients, and symptoms often return after discontinuation. We conduct basic and clinical research to understand the pathology of atopic dermatitis and develop safe treatments. We are also working on new technologies, such as non-invasive imaging, to observe the skin’s interior without cutting it. Our collaboration with pharmaceutical companies has already led to the creation of two new drugs. We are researching toward a complete cure.
