Computer drug development: fast, cheap, and precise
Drug development requires a large amount of money, more than 100 billion yen, and a long period of time—easily more than 10 years. My aim is to develop drugs that are faster, cheaper, and more effective by using computer technologies such as AI and simulation. Specifically, I am working on developing AI that can identify disease-causing molecules from a patient’s genetic data and automatically design drug chemical structures targeting these molecules. I am also developing simulation technology that predicts drug efficacy and side effects using world-class supercomputers such as “Fugaku.” My dream is that in the future, drugs created through the computer technologies I develop will help save many patients suffering from untreatable diseases.
