Preserving communitiesʼ buildings and townscapes
In Japan, including Kyoto, where Kyoto University is located, temples, shrines, residences, and other traditional wooden buildings have created cultural value and community-rooted townscapes over generations. However, Japan is also prone to earthquakes, and large ones have caused significant damage to them. I am developing practical performance evaluation methods and countermeasures to ensure they are safely preserved for the future. This involves on-site surveys, data analysis, and experimental simulations to assess seismic resistance. Also, in response to recent issues like vacant houses and a shortage of people to maintain buildings, I am conducting research from a societal perspective as well, considering local history and culture.
