The Wildlife Research Center (WRC) collaborations with zoos and aquariums
The Wildlife Research Center (WRC) grapples with research issues covering numerous animal species from a wide variety of perspectives, ranging from individual animals and animal herds to the world of cells and DNA. As part of these efforts, the WRC partners with 19 zoos and aquariums in Japan, including Kyoto City Zoo, the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Nagoya and the Japan Monkey Centre. With the aims of conducting joint research, providing environmental education and caring for and preserving wildlife, the WRC’s main activities are fivefold:
- Mutual exchange with instructors, researchers, staff, students and others
- Academic publishing and exchange of academic information
- Joint presentation of symposiums, seminars, lectures, etc.
- Advancement of joint research plans
- Animal breeding and exhibition technologies (in animal breeding facilities)
To make the results of collaborations with zoos and aquariums available to the general public, the WRC plans and presents the joint symposiums “Zoo University” and “Aquarium University” with partner zoos and aquariums.
