Lessons from diverse plants

Yusuke Onoda
Graduate School of Agriculture

Plants support all life on Earth, including humans, through photosynthesis. With over 350,000 plant species, they provide resources for food, medicine, textiles, furniture, and more. How have these plants evolved, and how do they coexist? Our research spans from fundamental to applied sciences, exploring plantsʼ diverse forms, environmental responses, multifaceted ecological significance, and contributions to ecosystems. Even the most ordinary plants around us hold fascinating stories, and unraveling these natural wonders is a privilege for researchers. We also study forest structures and functions using advanced technologies, such as drones equipped with laser scanners. These studies aim to deepen understanding of forest development, enhance productivity, and support environmental conservation.
