Creating new solar technologies

Akira Yamamoto
Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies

To deal with the depletion of fossil resources, people are looking for ways to use the vast solar energy reaching Earth’s surface effectively. However, humanity has yet to adequately do so . While some practical technologies have been commercialized and knowledge has accumulated over years of research and development , I believe there is still untapped potential in using light. I am developing new photocatalytic technologies to produce fuel and decompose environmentally harmful compounds using light energy. If various solar technologies become practical and are networked in environmentally friendly ways, we should be able to use sunlight much more efficiently than now. Aiming for such a future, I want to create new molecular conversion technologies using solar energy.
